ANCESTORS
BANDON DUNES 2027
JULY 19–21, 2027
ANCESTORS TOURNAMENT
Ancestors has always been about the people. The courses, competition, dinners, and traditions matter, but the people create the experience. Our goal is to assemble the right 80 people to create the best Ancestors we have ever had.
If you're receiving an invitation to request consideration, we already consider you part of the Ancestors community. That relationship isn't limited to whether you participate in a particular tournament field — the field is necessarily limited each year, but we hope every member of the community stays connected, supports the WGA and Evans Scholars, shares ideas, introduces future Ancestors, and participates in the life of the community over time.
Invitation requests for the 2027 Ancestors field will be accepted September 15 – October 31, 2026. Each person must submit an individual request, including those requesting to play with a partner.
2027 Format: AGA Select Drive
In an effort to speed up play, build more connection across the group, and let each course play the way its architects intended, both from the best tee boxes and approach shots. Every round in 2027 will be governed by AGA Select Drive. More golf. More time together.
How it works:
Everyone in the group hits a tee shot.
The group selects the single best actual drive.
Everyone else drops their ball within two scorecard lengths of that spot — not closer to the hole, and in the same condition (fairway, rough, or bunker).
From there, every player plays their own ball in to the hole.
This is not a scramble. Only the tee shot is shared — from the selected drive on, it's your own game the rest of the way.
Your AGA Index — start with your USGA Course Handicap, then apply the Select Drive factor: 2 players = 75%, 3 players = 70%, 4 players = 65%.
At Ancestors: GHIN Index above 9.0 — Select Drive is required. GHIN Index 9.0 or lower — choose Traditional/GHIN scoring or Select Drive before play begins. No minimum-drive rule. Net double bogey is the maximum score once a hole is effectively over. Lost ball or out-of-bounds follows the event's local rule.

No. Previous participation does not guarantee a place in the 2027 field. Ancestors Foundation selects the field based on the same values that guide the event — community, generosity, presence, fun, and innovation — plus how people have supported the group. The process is not a lottery, and scores, rankings, or individual explanations aren't published.
-
